Insider Guide: Volta Restaurant Does Dose Dupla

What do you get if you take world-class, guest bartenders, a fully stocked bar, a double dose of imagination, all housed in one of our favorite local haunts in Jardim Botanico? The answer, friends and comrades, is Volta Restaurant’s new concept evening; Dose Dupla.

Volta Restaurant, located on Rua Visconde de Carandai, serves up a tasty menu of contemporary Brazilian-fusion cuisine with funky, whimsical vintage furniture and hand-crafted lighting, tucked away in the easy-going neighborhood of Jardim Botanico. This modest eatery has recently taken center stage in the run for Rio’s best restaurants thanks to the arrival of twin brother head chefs; Fernando and Juliano Basile. Their modern twist on a Brazilian grandmother’s classics, combined with a friendly and smiley team of waiters, makes this a great spot for lunch or dinner. So much so that if you fancy sampling their delicacies, we would recommend booking a table.

This month they are launching a new night; Dose Dupla where guests are invited to request their favorite song from the guest DJ while having a personalised cocktail crafted from a roster of guest bartenders, plus Volta’s own Jean-Ponce. Yesterday we were at the hands of mixologist Tato Giovannoni, Argentine barman extraordinaire who famously founded the underground speakeasy Floreria Atlántico in Buenos Aires. The concept is simple. You tell them your spirit of choice and an idea of your preferred flavor combinations; be it sweet, sour, acidic, fruity, long or short and the two barmen will each create their personal interpretation for your pleasure and delight. Not only this, but you also get to request a song of your choosing to be played as you drink. In a city where traditional botecos and caipirinhas rule, this double does of creativity is a welcome change and a must-try for a great evening with friends.
