4 Must Do Things At ArtRio 2015
This week, art lovers across the world are setting their sights on Rio de Janeiro ahead of the highly revered ArtRio, an exhibition of modern and contemporary art. One of the most renowned art fairs in the world, it will take place for the fifth time at the Pier Mauá, Rio de Janeiro. Bringing together 106 national and international galleries, ArtRio showcases some of the best talent to everyone with a passion for art and culture. This year, to celebrate the arrival of IDA – a new design exhibition, the twice crowned ‘Best Bar in South America’, Florería Atlantico is hosting a pop-up bar.
The largest art fair in South America, ArtRio is a unique event showcasing the works of top galleries such as the Brazilian Fortes Vilaça and Luisa Strina plus international galleries such as White Cube and David Zwirner. Alongside their work, ArtRio promotes the work of aspiring upcoming artists and introduces them in the world of art. Yara Pina – represented by Gallery Nosco
Yara Pina is a Brazilian native living in Goiania. Since 2010, Yara´s work has been shown in art salons and work exhibitions and was recently selected for Open Sessions a two year program in Drawing center, New York. She is known to use different materials, objects, instruments to insinuate bodily actions and to aggressively act in space.
Josiah Mcelheny – represented by White Cube
An American artist and sculptor currently living in New York. His work is characterized by the use of glass blowing, assembling of glass and mirrored glassed objects. Josiah Mcelheny portfolio shows a mixture of old and new. In his earlier work he he explored specific moments in the history of glass. Nowadays, his art shows that he has changed his ways into a more concentrated look into the legacy of modernity.
Abraham Palatnik – represented by Nara Roesler
Imagine this work of art hanging or standing in one of your apartment rentals in Rio de Janeiro. Isn’t it beautiful? Abraham Palatnik is a Brazilian native that has been a pioneer in the Op Art movement and the founder of the technological movement in Brazilian art. He explores the creative use of technology in art. Abraham Palatnik is an extraordinary artist.

This year, for the first time ever, the twice voted best cocktail bar in Latin America, Florencía Altantico will have an innovative ArtRio pop- up bar. Set up in front of Galpão 4, Florería Atlántico’s master bartenders will be mixing up their signature cocktails from an emporium filled with flowers from 1pm and 08:30pm daily. Getting thirsty yet?
